Influenced Literacy-*Toni Moore*

My English teacher during my high school years, Mr. Carson Reed has had a positive influenced on my literacy. Mr. Reed influenced my literacy in various ways, for example we would have class discussion on different topics each class period and I would always say “ is you” instead of “are u” and he would get on me about saying that. Another way he has influenced my literacy is that he always spoke correct grammar regardless to who was around and stayed with an professional mood of voice.

Mr. Reed is just a positive person in general and that’s one of the main reasons he influence me when it comes down to using correct grammar, writing papers etc. When I am around people I use slang all the time but sometimes when I think of my teacher I’ll start to speak correctly. Also during class he tough me not to drag my words as I speak nor speak to fast, because when I speak to fast my words don’t come out as they should; I tend to stumble over words or either someone can’t understand what I am saying nor what I am trying to say.

Therefore when I am having a conversation with people I try my best to use the correct form of words as well as having subjects that agree with my verbs. When I speak instead of using slang and saying words such as “is you” instead of “are you” are helpful as well.

  1. I'm so glad you have a teacher who influenced you in such specific ways. Clearly, Mr. Reed not only used his own speech as an example for you but reminded you of specific aspects of your own speaking that needed improvement. The fact that you can recall these details several years later shows just how much you were influenced. I have a similar experience with my 9th-grade algebra teacher, Mr. Canada. Although math was not my strongest subject, Mr. Canada made it interesting and pushed me to try for A's on each exam. I can still remember many of the rules and formulas he taught me, and that was a very long time ago!

  2. I had a teacher like that at the school that I previously graduated from. She wanted us to say words correct. But she would threaten her class to take five points off our grade everytime we said a sentence improper.

  3. I was also influenced by a teacher. My mom, family and friends was there but I was just picking up on how they talked. My teacher really showed me the right way how to pronounce words and write essays and paragraphs. I totally agree with you this post, and keep up the good work. In the future, keep on pushing and enhance on what you already know. Trermaine Williams _____tw607
