I’ve been here for a couple of weeks at the summer development program and the whole time I’ve been here I’ve had many problems in English. It was one chapter in particular that I had a problem with and that was chapter 26. We were talking about the coordination and subordination sentences. When I was in high school they didn’t really teach us anything about coordination and subordination that’s why when we got on that chapter I was confused. I didn’t know that a clause is a group of words that includes a subject and a verb, but since I been here I’ve learned all of that.
As we went throughout the she started teaching us coordinating conjunctions for example, and, but, for, nor, and so also known as the fan boys and subordinating conjunctions such as, after, if, unless, and if only. Also, in chapter 26 semicolons, dependent clause, and independent clause was a big issue that I had and knew that and independent clause and it can be written as a simple sentence. So when you don’t understand something you try to take the easy way out and try to get other people to do your work for you but I knew that letting other people do my work will not help me.
It seemed like I would never catch on to what we were doing because I really didn’t understand what we trying to do. Even when I was alone I still couldn’t figure out what I was trying to do, I thought that most the of the sentences that I was reading was correct but I was taught that your only suppose to put semicolons behind conjunctive adverbs and transitional expressions. As I sat there and I listen and I watched my teacher I realized that it wasn’t as hard as I was making it out to be.
Quintara I understand that you did not learn coordination and subordination clauses in high school , but it's wonderful that you've learned the difference in each while being in the program and also learning that having others do your work for you gets you no where.
ReplyDeleteI agree English is what I am struggling with also. I do not know what it is. In High school I did very good in English, I don't know what has happened since I have been here. I have managed to pass the test, but barely. I do not know what it is, all I know is that I need help as well as you.-Ni'kevia Wells
