Every since I been in this program the way I talk and the way I speak have made a very big improvement. Throughout my high school years when I would have to write a paper I made so many errors and mistakes but I learned from my mistakes and when I write a important essay or paper I always go back over what I just written a second time to make sure I have corrected my problems but the only reason I would make those errors is because I would talk slang all the time and I would write my papers how I talk. My teachers would tell me all the time that that’s not right but I always thought that it was.
My teachers were always on my back when it came down to speaking correctly and using my words right. I would always think that the way I speak is correct but apparently I wasn’t speaking the way they thought I was supposed to talk. However, am glad to have Mrs. Dechert as my English teacher because she doesn’t let us get away with talking in slang and she doesn’t let us write any of our work in slang because she is trying to get us ready for the real world and make sure were ready for our freshman year in college because the professors in college doesn’t like when your work is in slang or for any of your papas to be in slang and if it is we will fail. She wants us to be on a high level of speaking and I am desired to be on the level that she wants me to be. This summer development program has helped me lot since I’ve been here because I barley use slang in my vocabulary anymore and that all because of my amazing teachers.
Tara I use to hate to write in class, it use to take a long time for me to think of something, I am the say way i would write the way I speak, but since this program we have gotten better at speaking, writing, and thinking all together. its gone help in the long run of these 4 years college.<--- ALICIA
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in high school I would do the same thing. I aways had problems with my sentence structure. Its good to be able to learn from your mistakes so that the next time u would know better as well as knowing how things should be done. Last but not least its very important to speak proper english and prepare for the "real world".
ReplyDeleteI also think that the way we talk have a very big impact on the way we write. Because when you talk a certain way you get very comfortable with the way you talk. Me myself have a very big issue with talkin slang cause the people I hang around use it. That is why I am very thankful to have a teacher like Ms Dechort who corrects us on every little thing we say wrong.(Tiara Jones)
ReplyDeleteI like your blog because its quite similar to mines. We've all recognized a change in our learning skills. And I must agree that the program has tremendously enhanced our abilities to speak. In addition, I was quite similar to you during my years of high school. But now that we have our professors to guide us the fall should be a breeze.
