learning to speak-- robin davis

When your are younger you grow up hearing how people in your surroundings speak, and pronounce words. As little do they know we feed off how they speak. So bascially until we enter pre-school, your parents or guardien is in your surroundings is teaching you how to speak. a lot of people speak incorrected language not know that they are teaching younger kids in proper language. But as you get older you learn how to speak correct english, but i also think it is not easy because after you are use speaking one way it is hard to change it. and also it is not forced upon anyone to speak with correcte grammar. So when you go to school and your teacher is teaching you at the moment then when u leave her class you are not going to use proper english, because it is in your mind to speak slang or incorrect english. therefor we must practice using correct english oppose to using slang or our comfort english, where we barely pronounce words correctly.

  1. You are right. When we were younger, we were brought up to speak a certain way. I also wrote a little piece about this in my passage. Parents would rather for their children to speak the way they want them to speak, not the correct way. But some how, it all results out the same in the end of every sentence.

  2. Robin you are so correct. Growing up around your surroundings that speak improper English has an effect on you as well, as u get older u begin to speak just like he/she. But while you’re in your English class you would use correct English for that moment. So yes I think that the surroundings that you grew up around have a lot to do with the way we speak.

  4. Girl I think you is absolutely right. Younger children twnd to say or do what there parents do. I think we should speak proper english around our younger kids so they will know the proper thing to say before they get into pre-school.(Rikevia Wells)
