Hello, everyone. I am your teacher, Mrs. Dechert. I am originally from Birmingham, Ala, but I have lived in Starkville for six years. I am married and have two dogs, Dru and Ripley. I am a vegetarian and like to cook with food from my garden. This year I am growing tomatoes, squash, zucchini, garlic, peas, green beans, cantaloupe, okra, and collards. I also have a big herb garden where I grow thyme, basil, rosemary, sage, and dill.
My husband and I like to bake bread and sell it each Saturday at the Starkville Community Market. You can find out information about the market here.
Some of my favorite foods are tomatoes, pickles, and French fries. Some of my favorite meals are collard greens, purple hull peas, and cornbread; spaghetti with olives; and Asian stir-fry dishes.
Some of my favorite bands are The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Radiohead, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, The Frames, and Modest Mouse, but I listen to many different types of music.
I enjoy reading many types of writing, including novels, magazines, and blogs. My favorite novel is The Sounds and the Fury. Right now, I am reading A Star Called Henry and A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again.
This is my third year teaching in the Summer Developmental Program and can answer most questions you have about MSU. I am a strict teacher and a fair teacher. I will help you as much as you help yourself. If you have questions about the English assignments, I will be happy to give you additional help, but I will also expect that you have done your homework and are prepared for class each morning. You will find that this class moves very quickly, so completing your homework every night and studying for your tests will help you remember the information we go over in class.
I look forward to getting to know each of you and teaching your English class.
